2025 Solar and Battery Grants for South Australian Businesses

Update, October 2026: Applications for the 2025 South Australian Powering Business Grants round are now closed. This article records that round and explains how to prepare a business energy project. Check the official program page for any future announcements before making purchasing decisions.

The 2025 round offered eligible South Australian businesses and not-for-profits support for energy upgrades, including solar and battery systems. Grants ranged from $2,500 to $75,000, subject to the program's eligibility, equipment and funding rules.

The 2025 round opened on 18 August and closed on 31 October 2025. It was intended for eligible South Australian small and medium businesses and not-for-profits. Off-grid businesses were not eligible for this round. The official program guidelines and FAQs set out the full requirements; eligibility should not be assumed from your industry or the type of equipment alone.

Funding was subject to the official guidelines, including eligible costs and approval requirements. The program FAQs explain how grant amounts were calculated. Do not use a fixed historical rebate rate to estimate support for a new project.

Planning a solar and battery project for your business

Start with recent electricity bills, your operating hours and a list of major equipment. Note when pumps, refrigeration, machinery or accommodation loads run, and whether you expect demand to grow. These details help establish whether solar generation, battery storage or another efficiency upgrade best addresses your energy costs.

Ask for a proposal that explains system capacity, the assumptions behind estimated savings and the work included in installation and commissioning. Identify any existing solar equipment, available roof or ground space, and the loads you want to keep running during an outage. Backup capability needs to be included in the design; it should not be assumed from battery capacity alone.

Check funding before committing

Keep project costs, expected operating savings and potential incentives separate when comparing proposals. A technically suitable system does not automatically qualify for a grant. Before ordering equipment, confirm the applicable program's status, approval timing and documentation requirements directly with the administrator.
