Highland Valley is near Mount Barker and Strathalbyn, with a landscape that shifts from tree-filled valleys to open plains, offering long views stretching toward the south coast.
Parts of the area have traditionally been difficult to build on due to energy constraints, but off-grid power systems are changing that. Locations once considered impractical can now support modern living, including off grid tiny homes, with a reliable, self-sufficient power supply.
Off Grid Tiny Homes
The MyEnergy team recently completed installations for two off grid tiny homes positioned high on a ridge, overlooking one of Highland Valley’s elevated sites. Designed to suit the location and usage requirements, both systems deliver dependable power without the need for a grid connection.

- Victron SmartSolar MPPT RS 450/100
- 4.98kW Trina Solar Panels
- 7.1kWh Pylontech Batteries
Planning power for off grid tiny homes
A small floor plan does not automatically mean a small electricity demand. When planning off grid tiny homes, list the appliances used each day, how long they run and which may operate together. Cooking, hot water, heating, cooling and water pumping deserve particular attention because they can shape both daily energy use and peak power demand.
Share your expected occupancy, seasonal use and future plans with the system designer. Ask how the proposed solar array and battery storage match those needs through winter as well as summer, and how performance will be monitored after installation. For a new site, also discuss equipment location, maintenance access and any backup arrangements. The aim is to choose a complete power system around the way the home will be used, rather than selecting components from floor area alone.
