William Creek Award Winning Off-grid Solar Power System

William Creek is reputed to be the smallest town in South Australia, surrounded by Anna Creek Station, the world’s largest pastoral station, covering an area comparable to the size of Israel. It is the closest town to Lake Eyre North, near the Anna Creek Painted Hills and the gateway to the Simpson Desert.

With a permanent population of just six, growing to over thirty during the winter months, William Creek is an incredibly isolated location with no viable access to a grid connection. In a place like this, a reliable off grid power solution is essential.

Self-Contained and Reliable Off Grid Power Required

With an ageing off grid power system and a heavy reliance on diesel generators, William Creek needed a long term solution to better manage its power supply. The goal was to deliver an off grid power system that could make full use of solar and battery storage to reduce generator run time and improve reliability. The system needed to be designed and built within its own self-contained, protective environment, ensuring all components are securely housed and able to perform in harsh remote conditions.

Containerised Off Grid Power Solution

MyEnergy designed and delivered a large scale, containerised off grid power system built to perform in one of Australia’s most remote environments. Tailored and built within a 40 foot container, the system houses 135kVa of Victron Energy Quattro inverters, supported by 200kW of Trina Solar Modules. The system combines both DC coupled charging through Victron 450/200 SmartSolar chargers and AC coupling via Fronius ECO inverters, creating a flexible and well balanced setup. With 280kWh of battery storage using Pylontech US5000 batteries, the system delivers the capacity needed to support consistent and reliable power supply.

The entire system was built within a customised shipping container, designed to house and protect all components in a single, self contained environment. It was constructed offsite and fully tested before being transported to the remote location, ensuring a smooth installation and reliable performance from day one. Integrated air conditioning helps maintain stable internal temperatures, supporting consistent performance in harsh conditions.

The result is a tough and reliable off grid power system that delivers consistent power for the town, handling everyday energy use with confidence. With the right balance of solar and battery storage, it provides a reliable standalone power supply while still allowing room to grow as energy needs change over time.
