Weeroona Island Off Grid Power System, South Australia.

Located on the Spencer Gulf near Port Pirie, Weeroona Island is a small coastal community connected to the mainland by a causeway. At high tide, the surrounding tidal flats are covered and the island becomes separated from the mainland, while the causeway maintains road access. With views across Spencer Gulf and a relaxed coastal setting, Weeroona Island is a popular location for weekend getaways. For properties without a grid connection, an off grid power system provides a reliable way to establish power from the earliest stages of development.
Off Grid Power for a Holiday Block
For this project, MyEnergy worked with owners who had purchased a block on Weeroona Island as a weekend getaway, with plans to develop the property over time. A newly constructed shed was the first structure on site, requiring a reliable off grid power supply from day one. With gas cooking and combustion heating keeping initial electricity use relatively low, the system was designed to meet the property’s current needs while providing the flexibility to expand as energy demands grow.
Pre-Built for a Faster On-Site Installation
MyEnergy built and tested the complete power system at MyEnergy HQ inside a weather and vermin-protected steel cabinet. The cabinet was then transported to Weeroona Island and positioned on a newly laid concrete slab beside the shed, reducing on-site installation time and providing reliable power ready for the owners’ first weekend away.
The 7.84kW Aiko Solar array was installed on the roof of the new shed using a Schletter Roof Mount System, making use of the available roof space while keeping the remainder of the block open for future development.
The system features an 8kVA Victron MultiPlus-II inverter, Victron SmartSolar charge controller and Ekrano GX, combined with 10.24kWh of ZYC SIMPO lithium battery storage.

Off Grid Power Built for Weeroona Island
This Weeroona Island project demonstrates how off grid power can be carefully planned for a unique regional South Australian location. Built and tested at MyEnergy HQ before being transported to site, the system provided reliable power ready for the owners’ first weekend away. While current energy requirements are relatively modest, the system and protective steel cabinet have been designed with future growth in mind, with space to add more components and battery storage as the property develops and energy demands increase.
