Mannum sits along the Murray River in South Australia and is known for its mix of established homes, rural properties, and expanding developments. It’s also a popular destination for holidaymakers, with boating, fishing and river activities drawing people to the area year-round. While grid power is available within the township, new allotments on the outskirts often face challenges connecting to the grid.
Off Grid Solar For A New Home
For this new off grid build, the owner wanted a power supply ready for the home upon completion. With the build still in the planning stage, the system needed to be designed remotely from the building plans to suit the future layout of the home. It also needed to be scalable, supporting early site works while adapting to the full energy requirements of the property as it develops over time.
Delivering an Off Grid Solar Solution
Working directly from the building plans, MyEnergy designed an off grid solar system positioned close to the future home. The system was built within a large vermin and weather-proof steel cabinet, fully tested at MyEnergy HQ, and then transported to Mannum for installation. MyEnergy also planned and delivered the full ground mount installation as a complete in-house service, including pile driving, framing, panel installation and cabling back to the house site, with the off grid solar array consisting of 32 JA Solar panels installed on a ground-mounted Clenergy system, positioned in line with the future layout of the home.
The system includes a Victron MultiPlus-II inverter, Victron SmartSolar charge controller and Victron Cerbo GX for monitoring and control. A 5kW SMA Sunny Boy Storage inverter has also been integrated to support system performance. Paired with 33.6kWh of Pylontech battery storage, the system delivers dependable power and capacity to scale as the build progresses. The property owner’s existing 5kVA generator has also been integrated, set up for manual operation.
