Angaston, in South Australia’s Barossa Valley, is a rural township known for its vineyards and farming land. While the region offers a highly sought-after lifestyle, it is also prone to blackouts, common across regional South Australia. More homeowners are now investing in home solar and battery systems to manage rising electricity costs, respond to declining feed-in tariffs and protect against outages.

When Solar Alone Was No Longer Enough

We first met this client a couple of years ago while they were nearing completion of their new home build. At that time, the focus was on installing a substantial three-phase solar system. The original installation included a Fronius Smart Meter 3PH 63A, 2 x Fronius Symo 15.0-3 inverters and 30.71kW of Trina Solar panels mounted using a Clenergy roof mounting system. Initially, the system was designed as solar-only.

However, as feed-in tariffs continued to drop, exporting excess energy to the grid was no longer delivering strong returns. The homeowner wanted to make better use of their solar generation, reduce reliance on the grid and take full advantage of the federal battery rebate. The next step was upgrading the system to allow for large-scale battery integration and long-term energy savings.

Expanding a Home Solar and Battery System

MyEnergy upgraded the system with a DEYE High Voltage Hybrid Inverter – Three Phase 29.9kW, enabling battery integration. It was paired with 96kWh of ZYC SIMPO High Voltage battery storage, providing substantial backup capacity andja solar panels for home solar and battery system allowing the property to store and use the majority of its solar generation. This upgrade delivers outage protection, lower energy costs and greater control over when and how power is used.

With a total of 30.71kW of existing Trina Solar panels, the property now has a large-scale home solar and battery solution designed to support the home’s full energy demands while allowing for future growth.

Home Solar and Battery System Overview

A Future-proof Power Design

This expanded home solar and battery system allows the homeowners to capture and store excess solar energy for use overnight and during peak demand periods, rather than exporting it to the grid at reduced feed-in rates. In regional South Australia, where blackouts and grid instability are ongoing concerns, the addition of substantial battery storage provides reliable backup and confidence that the power remains on when the grid goes down.
