Moolawatana Station Remote Area Power System, South Australia.
Moolawatana Station Off-grid Power Solar Panels
Moolawatana Station is a long-established pastoral lease operating as a cattle station in South Australia’s Far North, located approximately 139 kilometres east of Lyndhurst and 227 kilometres west of Tibooburra, New South Wales. Operating in a remote landscape with no practical option for grid connection, self-reliance is part of everyday station life and reliable power is critical to keeping operations running, supporting communications, water infrastructure, accommodation and day-to-day station work.
Power Required for a Working Cattle Station
Moolawatana Station was operating with an existing off-grid power system that required an upgrade to better support ongoing cattle station operations. Reliance on generators was driving higher fuel use and maintenance demands, so MyEnergy were brought in to deliver a Remote Area Power solution that improves day-to-day reliability, integrates existing solar infrastructure, reduces generator dependence and allows the system to grow with the station’s future needs.
Remote Area Power System Upgrade
MyEnergy completed a Remote Area Power system upgrade at Moolawatana Station, integrating the existing PV solar system and adding an additional 6kW of solar capacity. The upgraded system was designed to work with the station’s existing infrastructure, providing improved power stability and increased storage capacity.
The system is built around a Victron Quattro inverter charger, supported by Victron SmartSolar controllers and a Fronius AC-coupled inverter. Battery storage is provided by Pylontech US3000 lithium batteries, delivering 72kWh of useable storage to support station operations day and night. A Victron Cerbo GX device enables system monitoring and remote access, allowing performance to be checked and managed remotely.
