What Happens When the Batteries Get Low
What to expect at your configured reserve, how to reduce demand and when to request help.
Act when your system approaches its configured reserve. The appropriate minimum battery level depends on the battery type, operating mode and backup arrangements. Use your MyEnergy handover settings rather than a percentage copied from another system.
What the system may do automatically
Depending on its design, the system may begin grid or generator charging, reduce discharge, preserve energy for essential loads or stop supplying power to protect the batteries. Automatic generator start and whole-property backup are only available where they have been installed and configured.
What you can do
- Check the accessible display for battery percentage, power flow and alarms.
- Reduce non-essential high-demand appliances using their normal controls. Keep essential and safety-critical equipment operating.
- Check whether solar, grid or generator input is available on the display.
- For a fitted generator, follow the site instructions and note whether it has started and whether the inverter is accepting power.
- Contact MyEnergy promptly if charging is unavailable, an alarm persists or shutdowns repeat.
If the power has stopped
A battery protection shutdown needs the correct recovery procedure. Do not repeatedly restart equipment, lower reserve settings, bypass protection or connect an external charger. Record the last readings and alarms and contact MyEnergy for instructions matched to your system.
Do not leave a deeply discharged battery unattended for an extended period. If an essential service depends on electricity, follow your existing backup or emergency plan rather than relying on the battery to restart automatically.
During extended cloudy weather
Plan discretionary loads around available charging. Heating, cooling, hot water, EV charging and pumps can use significant energy. Compare daily charging with consumption and seek a system review if the same shortfall keeps returning.
AGM and gel batteries
VRLA batteries need an appropriate lead-acid charging and reserve strategy. Repeated deep discharge and incomplete charging can reduce their life. Do not use a lithium battery’s depth-of-discharge figure as a target. Read AGM and gel battery care.
