How a Grid-Connected Power System Operates

A grid-connected system uses solar, battery storage and the electricity grid to supply power to your property.

During the day, solar power is used first. Any excess solar can charge the battery, with further surplus power exported to the grid where permitted.

At night or during periods of low solar production, the battery can supply the property. Once the battery reaches its minimum level, the grid automatically supplies the remaining power.

During a grid outage, only circuits connected to the backup supply will continue operating. The available backup time will depend on:

• The battery state of charge
• The amount of power being used
• The size of the battery
• The equipment connected to backup

Large loads such as air conditioning, electric hot water, pool equipment or EV chargers may not be connected to backup power.

The system manages the change between solar, battery and grid power automatically. Customers can view system performance through the available monitoring platform.
