Understanding Your ZYC Energy Batteries

ZYC Energy batteries store excess solar power for use at night, during poor weather or when property demand is greater than current solar production.

The batteries operate automatically with the inverter and include an internal battery management system. This protects them against overcharging, excessive discharge, high current, short circuits and temperatures outside their operating limits.

The following information applies to ZYC SIMPO 5000 batteries installed as part of a MyEnergy system.

Normal Battery Operating Ranges

The battery state of charge will rise and fall throughout the day.

As a general guide:

  • 60–100%: Normal operating range
  • 40–60%: Monitor solar production and power use
  • 20–40%: Reduce unnecessary loads
  • 10–20%: Low battery level
  • Below 10%: The system may shut down to protect the batteries

The exact low-battery point will depend on the inverter settings and how your MyEnergy system has been configured.

When battery levels are low, avoid large loads such as air conditioning, EV charging, pumps, electric hot water and workshop equipment.

Battery State of Charge Explained

State of charge, or SOC, is the estimated amount of usable energy remaining in the battery.

Battery levels are affected by:

  • Solar production
  • Time of day
  • Weather conditions
  • Property power use
  • Generator or grid charging
  • Large appliances operating together

The percentage may occasionally adjust as the battery management system recalculates the available capacity.

Start monitoring power use when the battery falls below 40%. Below 20%, limit use to essential loads until solar, generator or grid charging is available.

Battery Shutdown and Recovery

The battery system may shut down to protect itself from:

  • Very low charge
  • Excessive power demand
  • High or low temperature
  • Overcurrent or short circuit
  • An inverter or communication fault

If the system shuts down:

  1. Turn off large and non-essential appliances.
  2. Check whether solar, generator or grid charging is available.
  3. Check the inverter, batteries and monitoring platform for alarms.
  4. Confirm the generator has fuel and is ready to start.
  5. Contact MyEnergy if the system does not recover.

Do not repeatedly restart the batteries, operate internal breakers or change inverter settings unless instructed by MyEnergy.

Battery Alarms

The front of each SIMPO 5000 battery includes RUN, ALM and state-of-charge indicator lights.

A red ALM light means the battery has detected an error.

If an alarm appears:

  • Record the fault code.
  • Take photos of the battery and inverter displays.
  • Check the battery percentage.
  • Reduce large electrical loads.
  • Check whether charging is available.
  • Contact MyEnergy if the alarm remains active.

Do not remove battery covers or disconnect cables.

Temperature Limits

ZYC specifies the following operating ranges:

  • Charging: -10°C to 55°C
  • Discharging: -20°C to 55°C

The preferred installation environment is dry, shaded, ventilated and protected from direct sunlight, rain, dust and heat sources.

Battery charging or discharge may be limited or stopped when temperatures are too high or too low.

Contact MyEnergy if the battery area becomes unusually hot, ventilation is blocked or temperature alarms continue to appear.

Long-Term Storage

Do not completely shut down or isolate the battery system for an extended period without first contacting MyEnergy.

ZYC requires batteries stored for six months or longer to have their voltage checked. Further checks should then be completed every three months.

For extended periods away:

  • Leave the system operating unless instructed otherwise.
  • Keep remote monitoring and internet equipment powered.
  • Turn off unnecessary electrical loads.
  • Keep the generator fuelled and set to automatic.
  • Arrange periodic system checks where practical.

Do not use an external battery charger unless approved by MyEnergy.

Warranty Requirements

ZYC provides a 10-year limited product warranty for SIMPO 5000 batteries, subject to its warranty conditions.

The performance warranty covers the earlier of:

  • Retaining 70% of usable energy for 10 years
  • Reaching 15.36 MWh of energy throughput per battery

To help maintain warranty coverage:

  • Keep your invoice and installation records.
  • Operate the system using approved settings.
  • Do not modify, relocate or repair the batteries.
  • Keep the battery area clear, dry and ventilated.
  • Report suspected faults promptly.
  • Provide photos, serial numbers and monitoring information when requested.
  • Arrange system changes through MyEnergy.

The warranty may not apply where the battery has been operated outside approved settings, modified without approval, exposed to unsuitable temperatures or left non-operational for six months or longer. ZYC also requires known defects to be reported within 14 days.

Warranty assessment, travel and call-out charges may apply where no product fault is found or the issue is outside warranty coverage.
