Understanding Common Victron Alarms
Victron alarms appear when the system detects an operating condition that requires attention. They may appear on the inverter, GX display or Victron Remote Management portal.
Some alarms are temporary and clear automatically once conditions return to normal. Others may cause the inverter or charger to reduce output or shut down to protect the system.
Low Battery AlarmA low battery alarm means the battery voltage or state of charge has fallen below the programmed level.
Common causes include:
- Extended poor weather
- High overnight power use
- Several large appliances operating together
- Generator failure
- Batteries not receiving sufficient charge
Reduce non-essential loads and check whether solar, generator or grid charging is available. If the battery becomes too low, the inverter may shut down to protect the battery system.
Overload AlarmAn overload alarm means the property is demanding more power than the inverter can supply.
This may occur when starting or operating:
- Air conditioners
- Bore or pool pumps
- Electric ovens and cooktops
- Welders or workshop equipment
- EV chargers
- Several large appliances together
Turn off large appliances and allow the system to stabilise. Low battery voltage can also make an overload more likely when a large load starts.
High Temperature AlarmA temperature alarm means the inverter or another system component has become too hot.
Possible causes include:
- High ambient temperature
- Blocked ventilation
- Dust around vents or fans
- Equipment cabinets being used for storage
- Extended operation at high load
Reduce large loads and make sure equipment ventilation is clear. Do not open equipment covers or direct water onto the equipment. The system may reduce output or shut down until it cools.
High Battery Voltage AlarmA high battery voltage alarm means the battery voltage has exceeded the acceptable operating range.
This may relate to:
- A charging issue
- Incorrect charger operation
- A battery communication problem
- Incorrect system settings
- A battery management system fault
Do not change charging settings or repeatedly restart the system. Contact MyEnergy if the alarm remains active. Victron equipment may shut down and restart automatically once the battery voltage returns to an acceptable level.
DC Ripple AlarmA DC ripple alarm indicates unstable voltage between the batteries and inverter.
This can be associated with:
- A loose or damaged battery connection
- A faulty fuse or battery isolator
- Incorrect or damaged battery cabling
- High loads combined with low battery voltage
Reduce large loads and contact MyEnergy. Do not tighten battery connections, disconnect cables or operate internal battery equipment yourself. High DC ripple can cause the inverter to shut down for protection.
VE.Bus ErrorA VE.Bus error relates to communication or operation between Victron inverter-chargers, particularly in parallel or three-phase systems.
The VRM portal or GX display may also identify which phase is showing an overload, low-battery or temperature condition. Some VE.Bus errors clear automatically once the original problem has been resolved, while others require further investigation.
Record the complete VE.Bus error number before contacting MyEnergy.
Grid or Generator Input AlarmThe Victron system may reject incoming grid or generator power when the supply is outside its approved voltage or frequency range, or while the inverter is attempting to synchronise.
Check:
- Whether grid power is available
- Whether the generator is running normally
- Whether the generator has an active alarm
- Whether other equipment supplied by the generator is operating correctly
Do not adjust generator speed, voltage or inverter input settings unless instructed by MyEnergy.
Battery Communication AlarmA battery communication alarm means the inverter or GX device is not receiving the required information from the battery management system.
The system may limit charging, stop discharging or shut down to protect the batteries.
Check for alarm lights on the batteries and record any fault information. Do not disconnect communication cables or restart individual batteries unless instructed by MyEnergy.
Solar Charger AlarmA solar charger alarm may indicate an issue with the solar input, battery voltage, charger temperature or internal equipment.
Check:
- Current weather and daylight conditions
- Battery state of charge
- Whether solar production is showing in VRM
- Whether any visible isolators have been switched off
- Whether panels or equipment are visibly damaged
Do not open solar equipment, operate rooftop isolators or access internal electrical components.
No Data or Monitoring OfflineA no-data alarm means the VRM portal has stopped receiving information from the site.
This is commonly caused by:
- Internet outage
- Router or modem switched off
- Changed Wi-Fi name or password
- New internet service or router
- Weak network signal
- GX monitoring equipment losing power
The power system may continue operating normally while VRM is offline.
Internet, modem, router and Wi-Fi changes are not covered under warranty. Remote support, call-out and travel charges may apply if MyEnergy is required to reconnect or reconfigure monitoring.
What to Do When an Alarm AppearsBefore contacting MyEnergy:
- Record the exact alarm or error code.
- Take screenshots from VRM.
- Take clear photos of the inverter, battery and GX displays.
- Check the battery state of charge.
- Check current property power use.
- Confirm whether solar, grid or generator power is available.
- Reduce large and non-essential loads.
- Note when the alarm started and what equipment was operating.
Do not repeatedly restart the inverter, batteries or generator. Do not change system settings unless instructed by MyEnergy.
When to Contact MyEnergyContact MyEnergy if:
- The alarm remains active.
- The system repeatedly shuts down.
- The property has lost power.
- The batteries are not charging.
- The generator does not start.
- The alarm returns after clearing.
- There is unusual noise, heat or smell.
For smoke, fire, burning smells, water entry or exposed wiring, move away from the equipment and contact emergency services.
