Shading and Solar Panel Cleaning
Shading can significantly reduce solar production, even when only a small section of the array is affected.
Common causes include:
- Trees and new vegetation growth
- Buildings or structures
- Antennas and roof equipment
- Leaves, bird droppings or debris
- Dirt and dust buildup
Solar panels normally require little maintenance, but cleaning may help where dirt, salt, dust or bird droppings have built up.
Cleaning Solar Panels- Clean only when it is safe to do so.
- Use clean water and a soft brush or cloth.
- Avoid abrasive cleaners, pressure washers and harsh chemicals.
- Do not walk on the panels.
- Do not climb onto a roof without suitable equipment and training.
Rain may clean light dust, but heavier buildup may require professional cleaning.
