How to Restart a Victron Inverter System Safely

A Victron system should only be restarted when instructed by MyEnergy or when your site-specific operating guide directs you to do so.

Some alarms, including low battery or temporary overload conditions, may clear automatically once charging is available or the excessive load has been removed.

Before Restarting
  • Turn off large appliances and non-essential loads.
  • Record the exact alarm or error code.
  • Take screenshots from VRM and photos of the equipment displays.
  • Check the battery state of charge.
  • Confirm the generator or grid supply is available, where applicable.
  • Check for unusual heat, noise, smells, water entry or visible damage.

Do not restart the system if there is smoke, a burning smell, exposed wiring, water inside the equipment or significant physical damage.

Restart Procedure

Where MyEnergy has confirmed that a basic inverter restart is appropriate:

  1. Turn off all electrical loads.
  2. Locate the external On/Off/Charger Only switch on the Victron inverter.
  3. Move the switch to Off.
  4. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  5. Move the switch back to On.
  6. Allow several minutes for the inverter, batteries and monitoring equipment to reconnect.
  7. Check that power has returned and review VRM for active alarms.

Do not operate battery isolators, remove fuses, disconnect cables or open equipment covers unless specifically instructed by MyEnergy. Victron advises that dangerous residual voltage may remain inside the equipment after shutdown.

After Restarting

Reconnect large appliances one at a time.

Check:

  • Battery state of charge
  • Solar production
  • Generator or grid input
  • Current property load
  • Active alarms
  • Whether the system remains stable
Contact MyEnergy

Contact MyEnergy if:

  • The system does not restart.
  • The alarm immediately returns.
  • The inverter repeatedly switches off.
  • The batteries are below 20%.
  • The generator does not start.
  • The property remains without power.

Do not repeatedly cycle the system, as this can make diagnosis more difficult and may not resolve the original fault.
