Willunga Hill, on South Australia’s Fleurieu Peninsula, overlooks the McLaren Vale wine region and is renowned for its demanding climb in the Santos Tour Down Under. Beyond the township, rural properties can face costly or impractical grid connections, making off-grid solar a practical choice for reliable, independent power.
A newly built shed at this Willunga Hill property needed reliable power without a connection to the grid. With plans to develop the property further, the owners needed an off-grid solar system that could power the shed now and expand to support a future home or farming activities. MyEnergy was brought in to design a system around their current needs and future plans.
With the newly built shed marking the first stage of development on an otherwise vacant block, MyEnergy designed an off-grid solar system around the shed and the property’s future plans. A protective steel cabinet houses the inverter, battery storage and control equipment, keeping the system self-contained alongside the shed’s external wall. Built at MyEnergy HQ by our in-house team of award-winning electricians, the cabinet was transported to Willunga Hill for a streamlined installation. Our team completed the system with an 8.85kW JA Solar array mounted on the shed roof using a Schletter roof mount system.
At the heart of the off-grid solar system, an 8kVA Victron MultiPlus-II inverter works with a Victron SmartSolar MPPT RS 450/100-Tr charge controller and 15.36kWh of ZYC Energy battery storage to supply dependable power for the shed. A Victron Cerbo GX and GX Touch allow the owners to monitor their off-grid solar performance, including solar generation, battery levels and power use.
Starting with a newly built shed, this Willunga Hill property now has reliable off-grid solar and a foundation for future development. Our in-house team of award-winning electricians built the cabinet at MyEnergy HQ before installing it alongside the shed, with solar panels mounted on the roof. As the owners’ plans take shape, whether adding a home or establishing farming activities, the off-grid solar system can grow with the property’s power needs.
