The township of Farina, founded in 1878 in the South Australian outback, was abandoned in the early 1900s due to its harsh desert environment and the decline of the railway and agriculture. The Farina Restoration Project, a community-driven effort, aims to revive this historic town by preserving its ruins and past.
A key part of this project was the restoration of the old underground bakery. To power the bakery and Tom’s Shed, a key community hub, MyEnergy Engineering designed and installed an off-grid solar system that provides reliable and consistent power to the township of Farina. This system significantly reduces the town’s reliance on diesel, making it more sustainable and cost-effective and is designed to grow with the town's energy requirements.
The underground bakery, once abandoned, now operates seasonally, attracting visitors and generating funds for further restoration. Thanks to reliable off-grid power, the bakery has become key in Farina’s revival, helping to sustain the Farina Restoration Project and breathe new life into the town.
