Dunolly is a historic town in central Victoria, renowned for its gold rush heritage in the 1850s. Once part of the "Golden Triangle," it boasts well-preserved buildings and landmarks. With a population of around 1,200, Dunolly offers natural beauty, including nearby hiking in the Pyrenees Ranges. Just 160 km northwest of Melbourne, it remains a peaceful and charming town. While the main township is connected to the grid, it doesn’t take long to travel outside the area before the grid connection is no longer available.
The Challenge: Reduce Reliance On The Generator
MyEnergy was contacted to provide a tailored off-grid solution by a property owner just 5km outside the Dunolly township, where there is no grid connection, to provide a tailored off-grid power solution. The owner sought to reduce reliance on their costly and maintenance-heavy generator.
The Solution: A Power System With Ample Battery Storage
The MyEnergy team designed and installed a tailored off-grid system that included AC coupling 4kW - Fronius and Victron - 8kW DC coupling, providing a total of 12kW during daylight hours and 8kW in the evenings. The system featured 26 solar panels mounted on the shed roof, with the power system built into the shed. It also included 4 Pylontech 3.55kWh battery units, with the rack providing space for 4 additional units to allow for future storage expansion. The system is connected to an auto-start generator for backup power, ensuring reliability and efficiency.
System Features
Fronius Primo 4.0-1 Inverter
Victron Multiplus-II 48/8000
2 X Victron SmartSolar MPPT 250/85
14.2kWh Pylontech Batteries
This off-grid system powers the property efficiently, ensuring reliable performance both day and night. Designed for scalability, it can easily expand to meet the property’s growing energy needs.
