Pirathon Wines Commercial Solar and Battery Upgrade, Barossa Valley.

Written by MyEnergy Engineering | Mar 11, 2026

In the heart of the Barossa Valley, Pirathon Wines in Angaston continues a proud winemaking tradition in one of South Australia’s most recognised wine regions. Established in 2004, Pirathon has built a strong reputation for producing full-bodied Barossa wines, particularly Shiraz, with its first vintage released in 2005. As the winery has grown and expanded its production facilities, energy demand across the site has increased, particularly for refrigeration, processing equipment and daily winery operations. As a result, the existing solar system required expansion to provide greater solar generation and battery storage.

The Need for a Modern Commercial Solar and Battery System

Pirathon Wines already had a 20kW solar system previously installed by MyEnergy, however as winery operations expanded the original system was no longer large enough to meet the growing energy requirements of the site.

MyEnergy were brought in to design and install a commercial solar and battery system upgrade that would integrate with the existing solar installation while significantly increasing the site’s generation capacity.

The goal of the upgrade was to provide a grid-connected energy solution capable of supporting winery operations today while allowing the system to scale as the business continues to grow. By expanding solar generation and adding battery storage, the winery can make better use of the energy generated on site throughout the day.

A Future-ready Commercial Solar and Battery System

The MyEnergy solution expands the winery’s existing solar infrastructure while introducing high-voltage battery storage to help manage energy across the site.

The installation led by Lead Electrician Mark Bates includes 39.6kW of JA Solar
panels mounted using a Schletter roof mount system, chosen to ensure a secure installation while protecting the roof structure.

The solar array is paired with a DEYE High Voltage three-phase hybrid inverter rated at 29.9kW, allowing the system to manage solar generation, battery storage, and grid supply across the winery’s operations.

Energy storage is provided by a DEYE High Voltage Commercial & Industrial battery cabinet with 60kWh of capacity, allowing excess solar energy to be stored and used later in the day when power demand increases.

Working alongside the existing 20kW solar system, the upgraded installation delivers greater solar capacity while improving how energy is managed across the winery’s operations.

Commercial Solar and Battery System Overview:

Supporting the Future of Pirathon Wines

With the upgraded commercial solar and battery system now installed, Pirathon Wines has the additional solar generation and storage capacity needed to support its growing winery operations in the Barossa Valley. By expanding the existing system and integrating new solar and battery technology, the winery can better manage its energy use across production, refrigeration and daily site operations. The upgraded system provides greater on-site solar generation while allowing Pirathon Wines to make better use of the energy produced as the winery continues to grow.
