Off Grid Solar System For a Weekender in Bowhill, South Australia.

Written by MyEnergy Engineering | Jul 16, 2026

Located along the Murray River in Bowhill, South Australia, this property is the future site of a holiday shack where the owners plan to enjoy weekends and holidays away. With no practical grid connection available, off grid solar power was the ideal solution to provide reliable electricity.

Holiday Shack Power Requirements

While the holiday shack is yet to be built, the owners wanted to establish a reliable power supply ahead of construction. The property had previously relied on a generator running around the clock for electricity. They required an off grid solar power system that would significantly reduce generator run time while integrating with the existing generator to provide reliable backup power whenever needed.

An Off Grid Solar System Solution

The MyEnergy team designed and installed a tailored off grid solar system to suit both the customer's current and future power requirements. As the holiday shack is yet to be constructed, a ground-mounted solar array was selected due to the absence of available roof space. The S-rack ground mount system was installed by MyEnergy's in-house team of award-winning electricians using our GAYK Pile Driving machine, providing a complete end-to-end solution from system design through to installation and commissioning.

Built within a protective vermin and weatherproof cabinet, the system features 3.8kW of ground mounted Aiko Energy solar panels, 15.36kWh of battery storage, a 5kVA Victron MultiPlus-II inverter and a Victron SmartSolar MPPT RS 450/100-Tr charge controller. The installation also includes a Victron Ekrano GX for intelligent system management and remote monitoring, while integrating with the existing generator to provide additional backup power whenever required.

Reliable Off Grid Solar Power for Remote Holiday Properties

With MyEnergy's experience designing off grid solar systems for holiday shacks, weekenders and remote homes across Australia, this Bowhill installation provides reliable electricity today while being ready to support the future holiday shack once construction is complete. The ground mount pile driving and installation were completed by MyEnergy's in-house team, providing a streamlined end-to-end solution from design and construction through to commissioning. By combining solar, battery storage and integrated generator backup, the system reduces generator reliance while delivering dependable power year-round. It is also fully scalable, allowing additional battery storage or solar capacity to be added as future energy requirements grow.
