Perched amongst the rugged peaks of the Gammon Ranges in South Australia's far north, Grindell's Hut is one of the region's most iconic remote accommodation destinations. Originally built in the late 1800s as a shepherd's hut during the area's pastoral era, the historic stone hut now provides visitors with a unique outback experience surrounded by some of Australia's most spectacular mountain landscapes. Located far from any grid infrastructure, reliable off grid power is essential to support guests and ensure the accommodation can operate year-round.
MyEnergy designed and installed a tailored off grid power system specifically suited to the accommodation site's energy requirements and remote location. The power system was built and tested at MyEnergy HQ, inside one of our smallest weatherproof and vermin-proof steel cabinets before being transported to site for a streamlined installation. While this cabinet size is less commonly used within our range of off grid power systems, it was ideally suited to the accommodation's requirements, providing reliable protection for critical system components in the harsh conditions of the South Australian outback.
Utilising the available roof space, a 4.75kW solar array comprising 10 JA Solar panels was installed using a Schletter roof mounting system, providing a secure and durable foundation for the solar installation. Combined with 10.24kWh of ZYC Energy SIMPO battery storage and Victron Energy equipment, the completed system delivers reliable power throughout the year while allowing operators to monitor and manage system performance via the Victron Ekrano GX. The system was also designed with future expansion in mind, allowing additional capacity to be added should energy requirements increase over time.
