Grid-connected Solar and Battery System for a Rural Farm in Appila.

Written by MyEnergy Engineering | Apr 15, 2026

Appila is a small farming area in South Australia. Properties in this region often face limitations with grid reliability, particularly during peak demand periods or seasonal workloads. For working farms, where equipment, water systems and daily operations depend on steady power, having a stable energy supply is critical.

Future Proofing Farm Power

This property required a reliable and consistent power supply to support day-to-day farm operations. Like many agricultural sites, energy demand fluctuates throughout the day, with pumps, sheds and general farm equipment placing varying loads on the system. Without a well-designed setup, this can lead to interruptions and increased running costs.

A Solar and Battery System for Farming Demands

MyEnergy's solution was to build the system in the property's large work shed, with the inverter and battery positioned internally and connected directly through the wall to the main switchboard. A total of 36 Aiko Solar panels were mounted on the shed roof using the Schletter Roof Mounting System. Paired with a DEYE Low Voltage Hybrid Inverter and battery system, this system design delivers dependable performance, with the flexibility to scale as farm operations evolve.

The site operates with separate meters for the shed and house, with the new system installed on the house supply to provide backup across the property. A changeover switch was incorporated to integrate the existing generator, ensuring back up power is available if ever required.

Farm power requirements are rarely constant, with demand increasing during key farming periods. This system was designed to manage those variations, storing excess solar energy for use when needed and delivering reliable power throughout the day.

Grid Connected Solar and Battery System Overview:

Reliable Farm Power for the Future

With a solar and battery system now in place, this Appila property now has stable, dependable power supporting both the home and day to day farm operations. From running essential equipment to managing peak usage periods, the system keeps everything operating without interruption, while also providing backup to the house when it is needed most.

Built to suit the demands of this working farm, the system also allows for future expansion as requirements change over time. It is a practical setup that delivers reliable power where it counts, on properties where downtime simply is not an option.
