Grid-connect Solar and Battery System for a Farm in Tuerong, Victoria.

Written by MyEnergy Engineering | Feb 23, 2026

Tuerong is a small locality on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula that developed through grazing and agriculture from the mid-1800s. With fertile soils, it became known for farming, dairying and livestock, further supported by the arrival of the railway in 1889, which connected local producers to Melbourne markets. While surrounding Peninsula townships have grown, Tuerong has retained its agricultural focus.

Beating Declining Feed-In Tariffs

While this Tuerong farming property has a grid connection, the owner wanted a power system that fundamentally allowed them to live off-grid day to day, retaining the grid purely as backup. With rising electricity costs and declining feed-in tariffs, exporting excess solar back to the network was no longer a viable strategy. Instead, the objective was clear: generate, store and use power on-site, reduce grid reliance and maintain consistent supply across the home and farm.

Smart Grid-Connected Solar and Battery System

The MyEnergy team designed and installed a grid-connected solar and battery system set up to make the most of the power generated on-site, with the grid retained as backup. The solar array is mounted on the main shed roof using a Schletter roof mount system. The system operates on a single-phase supply and incorporates two inverters to manage the site’s load requirements, supported by 51.2kWh of battery storage to carry overnight consumption and manage peak demand. Excess daytime generation is stored for later use, reducing reliance on the grid under normal operating conditions. The system layout allows for additional solar and battery capacity to be added as load requirements increase.

A Farm Solar and Battery Solution Built to Last

MyEnergy designs and installs award-winning solar and battery systems for residential, commercial and agricultural properties across Australia. For this Tuerong farming property, the goal was reliable on-site power, lower grid reliance and long-term cost control. With over 50kWh of battery storage, the property can operate day-to-day as if off-grid while retaining the grid as backup, providing greater certainty as power prices rise and feed-in tariffs decline.
