Port Pirie is a major regional centre approximately 220 kilometres north of Adelaide. For properties outside the town centre, connecting to the electricity grid can be costly. Off grid power provides a reliable alternative, particularly when the system is planned to grow alongside the property
For this Port Pirie project, MyEnergy worked with property owners building a new home who needed reliable power throughout construction. Rather than installing the complete system from day one, the off grid power system was planned in stages to grow alongside the build.
Stage one provides the basic power required during construction, with the equipment installed on a dedicated power wall inside the shed. The next stage is planned for approximately 18 months, when additional inverter capacity, solar and battery storage can be added as the home is completed and energy requirements increase.
The first stage features 6.65kW of AIKO solar installed on the shed roof using the Schletter Roof Mount System, paired with a 5kVA Victron MultiPlus-II inverter and 15.36kWh of ZYC Energy lithium battery storage. The off grid power system was built on a dedicated power wall inside the shed, with the batteries housed in a ZYC battery cabinet, creating an organised setup with room for the planned system expansion.
By considering the property’s future requirements from the beginning, the owners have reliable off grid power during construction without installing all of the future capacity before it is required.

A staged approach to off grid power means installing what’s needed today while planning for what comes next. For this build, the first stage provides reliable power throughout construction, while the dedicated power wall has been designed with future expansion already considered. As the new home takes shape and energy demands increase, additional solar, battery storage and inverter capacity can be added, allowing the power system to grow alongside the property.
